What is Chkobba?
Chkobba is the most popular card game in Tunisia — played in cafés, on Ramadan evenings and at family gatherings. It descends from the Italian Scopa, "the broom", and keeps the same central move: clear every card off the table in one go and you have made a Chkobba.
40 cards, two players or four in partnerships. Each round is decided by four points — karta, dineri, bermila, 7ayya — plus one for every Chkobba. Games usually run to 21.

The rules in brief
Each player is dealt 3 cards and 4 are laid face up in the middle. Play runs anticlockwise.
The face cards carry their own values: the king is 10, the jack 9 and the queen 8 — the opposite of what most people assume.
At the end of a round four points are counted, plus one for every Chkobba. Games usually run to 21.
